61 punished for electoral misconduct in Sunday’s general election

News Desk :: Mobile courts across Bangladesh sentenced a total of 61 people to different jail terms and fine for electoral misconduct during the January 7 general election.

Election Commission said that the sentences were given through summary trials by the first class judicial magistrates.

Of the 61, one Mahtab Hossain Rudro of Kurigram-3 constituency was sentenced to five-year imprisonment, one Rashed of Bogura-1 constituency was sentenced to two-year rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 2,000, Shafikul Islam Ananta and Md Eusuf of Brahmanbaria city area, Azizul Bhuiyan and Sabbir Ahmed of Bijiynagar upazilla of the district were also sentenced to two-year imprisonment.

Four people were sentenced to six-month jail for casting fake votes in Panchari upazilla of Khagrachari.
