An old mother to get her son near Osmaninagar Ahazari: Poor families in the grip of terrorists
Staff Reporter
An expatriate family has lost their way in Osmaninagar, Sylhet due to one torture after another by terrorists in the shelter of influential Awami League leaders. After being admitted to the hands of Awami terrorists, he was rescued through ransom and went abroad to save his life.
Recently, in the presence of influential Awami League leaders, the terrorists forcibly seized the ancestral property of the expatriates. Although the local police have been repeatedly informed about these activities of the terrorists, no action is being taken. On the contrary, the police have continued to file various political revenge cases and threats against the relatives, including the elderly parents living in the expatriate country, in favor of the terrorists. Hanufa Bibi, the elderly mother of expatriate Abdul Haque, son of Achmat Ullah alias Kancha Mia of Tajpur village in Dayamir union of the upazila, has finally lodged a written complaint with the DIG of Sylhet Range. In the allegation, he demanded exemplary punishment of the terrorists including ensuring security and recovering the occupied land through proper investigation to get his son Abdul Haque back.It is learned that Abdul Haq, son of Achmat Ullah alias Kancha Miah of Tajpur village in Dayamir Union of the upazila, is a senior vice-president of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Dal (BNP) affiliate Upazila Juba Dal. Since his disappearance, he has infuriated the local influential Awami League leaders. They tried to seize the family property by launching one false case after another to attack Abdul Haq.Abdul Haq was abducted by Awami League leaders three years ago. Two days later, he was rescued from the terrorists by ransom and lodged a written complaint with the police, but the police did not take cognizance of it.Following this, the incumbent leaders of the Awami League forcibly took over the place in the new market. When the police went to the police station with a written complaint against the Awami League leaders for forcibly occupying the place, they expressed inability to take the complaint.Abdul Haque immediately filed a case in the court in 2016 to occupy the place. Awami League leader Syedul Islam of Khatupur village and Ali Hossain Gang of Tajpur village were accused in the case. After the case was filed, the Awami terrorists became more reckless. Abdul Haq and his family members were tortured in various ways and threatened with disappearance and murder. At one stage, Abdul Haq left his elderly parents at home and migrated with his wife and children to save their lives.
After a long testimony in the case filed after Abdul Haq’s emigration, on 12 October 2019, Sylhet Additional District Magistrate Abdul Haque ruled in favor of Abdul Haque and directed the police to assist him in getting back his occupied land. But despite the court ruling, the family has not yet returned due to threats from government Awami League leaders.Meanwhile, at one stage, the terrorists adopted a different strategy and demanded a large sum of money from Abdul Haque’s family through a letter by post. After lodging a complaint at the police station, the police immediately arrested the terrorist Ali Hossain, but using party influence, they released the detainee from the police station and managed the police and settled the matter unilaterally.Following this, his nephew Sumon Mia, who was staying in the country of expatriates, was made the accused in a political case filed with Golapganj police station by influential leaders of Awami League. Complaining about this, the old woman and her husband went to the Upazila Awami League President Ataur Rahman and the then General Secretary Abdal Mia and Upazila Juba League President Anna Mia, but nothing happened. On the contrary, the Awami League leaders told the elders to bring your son Abdul Haque to the country and get his grandson Sumon to join the Awami League. Otherwise, no one in your family will be able to live in peace. Sumon will travel around the country as a Ferrari and Abdul Haq will have to give his life in the hands of terrorists.Abdul Haque’s mother also alleged that the Awami League leaders kicked the old women out of the office for not agreeing to these words. Later, Awami terrorists again attacked Abdul Haque’s house and tortured the elderly parents. Abdul Haque’s elderly father was accused in another politically vindictive case in Sylhet.Reports on these issues have been published in several national and local dailies at different times. In May this year, Juba League and Chhatra League leaders led by Awami League leaders Syedul, Apple and Ali Hossain went to Kancha Mia’s house and threatened to kill Abdul Haq when he returned home and demanded to find his nephew Sumon Mia.At that time, the terrorists came out of the house abusing Sumon without finding him and started running a business by forcibly constructing a house in a place named Abdul Haque in the local new market. Abdul Haq accused Awami League leader Syedul Islam Syed, Juba League leaders Muhibur Rahman and Ali Hossain of expatriate welfare cell and sent several written complaints to the Expatriate Welfare Cell.Elder Hanufa Bibi said in a tearful voice that the politics of her son Abul Haque’s Juba Dal has become a nightmare for the family. The family has been destitute. Chhatra League and Juba League cadres are constantly attacking and torturing. He sought the intervention of the Prime Minister and other senior officials of the administration to get back his son Abdul Haque, who was living an inhuman life with his wife and children in exile including the occupied land.Accused Awami League leader Syedul Islam Syed said there was no personal dispute with them. We have tried to resist the advice of senior leaders as Abdul Haq and his nephew Sumon Sarkar have been involved in various sabotages to overthrow the government. When asked about the forcible occupation, Syedul Islam got angry and threatened the reporter without giving any answer.Sylhet Range DIG Mofiz Uddin confirmed the allegations received by Abdul Haque and his elderly mother on the overall issue, saying anyone can support any party in the democratic process. If the matter is under investigation, action will be taken against those involved.
