Desk News :: The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday said that it informed the United States visiting pre-election observation team that a fair election would not be possible under Sheikh Hasina.
Following the meeting with the delegation at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, ‘We have said on behalf of BNP that a fair election is not possible under Sheikh Hasina government. The political situation of Bangladesh has not improved since the last election; rather it has worsened. They disenfranchised people in the last elections.’
‘The scheme of stealing votes has now become stronger,’ he said, adding that repression against opposition party leaders and activists also increased.
He also said that the election of Bangladesh was not only questioned within the country, also questioned by the international communities.
‘People of the country want fair elections. The world also wants fair elections in Bangladesh. There is no election atmosphere in the country,’ he added.
