An Airport Authority of India (AAI) official at Lengpui told that the plane was flying to India for collecting 92 soldiers who had fled to India earlier last week while fighting the armed resistance against the Myanmar junta.
Of the 12 injured, “four are stated to be serious,” added the official, who requested anonymity as they were not authorised to speak to media.
The plane was supposed to take the troops to Sittwe in Rakhine state.
Mizoram shares a 510km border with Myanmar.
Last week, 276 soldiers in all entered Mizoram. Officials said that of them, 184 were sent home on Monday (22 January), while the remaining 92 soldiers were scheduled to return home today.
After the Arakan Army in Rakhine and rebels in Chin Province ran over their outposts, forcing the military junta to attempt a coup in February 2021, a huge number of Myanmar security forces fled to Mizoram.
