Bangladesh becomes monarchy of Sheikh family: BNP

News Desk :: The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday said that the country had become a monarchy of the Sheikh family.

‘Yesterday you saw the Supreme Court Bar Association election. It was seen there how intense the level of arrogance and boasting of power can be,’ BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said at a discussion.

Zia Cyber Force organised the discussion at the BNP’s Naya Paltan central office.

He said that prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s family members turned the country into their family feudalism.

During the bar association elections, witnesses experienced the violence conducted by Juba League members, Rizvi said.

‘BNP-backed panel’s secretary candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal has been arrested in connection with the violence. But why Nahid Sultana Juthi, the wife of Juba League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, was not arrested? They are fighting with each other; but people of BNP are being arrested,’ he said.

He said that activists of the ruling party and its associate bodies conducted vote rigging and manipulated the results during the SCBA polls.

‘Awami League-backed panel’s candidates have been forcefully declared winners. If the polls were held properly, the full panel of BNP would have won,’ he added.

The BNP leader said that the ‘dummy government’ had taken away all the rights of the people.

‘The right of the people to elect their prime minister has been taken away. Around 50 million educated youths are unemployed currently. Government does not have any initiative to provide them with work opportunities,’ he added.

BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, and Krishak Dal leaders Hasan Jafir Tuhin and Shahidul Islam Babul spoke at the programme, among others.
