Bangladesh to face serious consequences after general election: Mancha

Desk News :: Leaders of Ganatantra Mancha on Thursday feared that Bangladesh would face serious consequences after the January 7 general election.

The leaders, addressing a rally in Dhaka, said that the ruling Awami League government was going to hold one-sided parliamentary elections, without most of the opposition political parties in the country.

On the last day of their three-day mass contact programme, Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, organised the rally in front of the Petrobangla Bhaban at Kawranbar in the capital.

Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki chaired the rally.

Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the government was going to hold another one-sided election, where most of the opposition parties including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party were not taking part.

He called on the people to refrain from casting their votes in the election.

Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq said that such one-sided election would not be accepted by the people of home and abroad.

Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki called on the voters to reject the election by not casting their votes on January 7.

Meanwhile, Mancha will hold a rally in front of the National Press Club on Saturday at 11:30am and hold a march towards the Election Commission Bhaban at Agargaon to show red card to the commission protesting fifth anniversary of farcical election of 2018 and one-sided election scheduled on January 7, Saki announced.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon said that they would continue their movements protesting against the next election.

Bhashani Onusari Parishad member secretary Habibur Rahman Reezu, Rastra Sannskar Andolan central leader Preetom Das and Ganosamhati central leader Monir Uddin Pappu also spoke at the rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession that ended at Kataban crossing.
