BNP associate bodies’ long march: Security blanket spread over Akhaura Land Port

News Desk :: A thick security blanket has been spread across the Akhaura Land Port and surrounding areas centring the long march programme called by the three associate bodies of the BNP. The programme was announced in response to the attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, India. Leaders and activists of Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal began the march which left from Nayapaltan in Dhaka at 9am today.

It is scheduled to reach Akhaura Land Port by 3pm. After that, a rally will be held at the land port yard. The BGB has also strengthened security measures in the border areas surrounding the long march and rally.

In addition to normal security in the border area, four platoons of BGB members have been deployed. In addition, more than a hundred police members are on duty in the Akhaura Land Port area.

A visit to the zero point of the land port showed that additional BGB members have taken up positions. Entry of the public to the Zero Line has been banned, except for passport-holding passengers.

In addition, BGB members have increased patrols in the surrounding border areas. Trucks carrying goods exported to India were allowed to enter the port by noon.

Akhaura Upazila Executive Officer Gazala Parvin Ruhi said security has been strengthened in the border area. Earlier on 8 December, the same bodies protested the same incident with a march towards the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

The march from Nayapaltan was stopped by law enforcement when it reached Rampura. Later, a delegation went to the Indian High Commission and submitted a memorandum.
