BNP for UN probe over BGB man killing in BSF firing

News Desk :: The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party has demanded a United Nations inquiry into the killing of a member of Bangladesh Border Guard in a firing incident by the Indian Border Security Force.

BGB member Mohammad Rais Uddin was shot dead by India’s BSF in the Benapole border area in Jessore in the past week.

The demand was made in a BNP standing committee meeting, according to a press release signed by the party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday.

It said that the party standing committee feels that ‘deliberate killings’ of the BSF is now well-known.

‘Delhi’s ferocity and Dhaka’s silence are behind these uncontrolled killings. The result of Sheikh Hasina’s obedient permanent political settlement with Delhi is keeping silent on the border killings of Bangladeshis by BSF firing, it said.

Referring to the Bangladesh–India border as the most violent and blood stained in the world, the BNP said that despite repeated promises by the Indian government, the killing of Bangladeshi citizens by the BSF on the border continues to increase.

The news of loss of life is constantly being published in the media, it said, referring to the data of human rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra that 201 Bangladeshi citizens have been killed by BSF firing in seven years.

The BNP’s highest policymaking forum felt that what has been said by the BSF after the shooting death of Mohammad Raisuddin is unacceptable.

India’s ambitious policy is not stopping the bloodshed at the border, it said, adding that the BSF has turned the border areas of Bangladesh into a blood-sport.

It is a hegemonic message to keep the people of Bangladesh on their knees, the BNP said.
