Deaths in crossfire: Two more cases filed against OC Pradeep
members of crossfire victims—Abdul Amin and Mofidul Alam—have lodged two cases against 56 people including suspended Teknaf Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Saha.
Nurul Amin and Mohamad Selim, brothers of victims Abdul Amin and Mofidul Alam respectively, lodged the cases with the court of Cox’s Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Helal Uddin on Thursday.
Plaintiffs’ lawyer Abu Musa Mohammad said 46 police members and 10 locals were made accused.
After taking the cases into cognizance, the court asked Teknaf Police Station to submit documents of the cases before the court on November 9.
Nurul Amin in his case statement said police detained his brother Abdul Amin from Baharchara area of Teknaf on September 21 in 2019 and demanded Tk 5 lakh from him.
Police killed Abdul Amin putting him into crossfire at night on September 30 even after his family gave Tk 50,000.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Selim in his case statement said police detained his brother Mofid Alam on July 11 in 2019 and demanded Tk 15 lakh.
Family members of the victim gave police Tk 6 lakh but they killed Mofid Alam putting him in crossfire on July 14.
On July 31, Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at night a check post at Shamlapur area under Baharchhara union along the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive.
Later, his sister filed a case where she made Baharchhara Investigation Centre’s Inspector Liakat Ali as prime accused and Teknaf Police Station OC as the accused number two. Besides, seven more policemen were made accused in the case.
