News Desk :: The rail communications between the northern districts and rest of the country snapped after a compartment of a passenger train derailed at the Bangabandhu East area in Tangail on Monday night.
The Bangladesh Railway west zone general manager Asim Kumar Talukder said that the incident took place around 9:20pm.
‘Four out of eight wheels of one of the coaches of Panchagarh Express, coming towards Dhaka from Panchagarh, derailed,’ he said, adding that no causalities were reported.
Movement of trains on the both lines immediately snapped, he said, adding that it would take two to three hours to free one of the lines to resume the rail communications.
Asim also said that three relief trains would start work soon to remove the derailed coach, mentioning, ‘They would form a probe committee soon.’
The rail passengers on the Chattogram routes also continued to suffer for the second consecutive day on Monday, following a derailment incident in Cumilla.
The rail communications on Dhaka-Chattogram route was partially resumed on one track out of two in the early hours of Monday, while it would take three days more to resume the movement of trains on another line, said officials of railway.
