SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, in-charge (dismissed) of Bandarbazar police outpost, who was at the forefront of Raihan’s murder at the Kanaighat border, has been arrested. He was arrested at Konaighat’s Dona border on Monday morning. The matter has been confirmed by the OC of Kanaighat police station. Bandarbazar police arrested the youth named Raihan Uddin on Saturday (October 10) afternoon. The police tortured him at the outpost that night and demanded money to release him. Raihan’s father received his son’s call from an unknown mobile phone in the morning.

Raihan said that they were demanding money for his release by keeping him in the outpost. Raihan also brought money to his father and requested him to rescue him. When his father went to the outpost with money in the morning to save his son, he was informed that Raihan was sleeping now and had to come around 10 am. Later at around 10 am he was told to go to Sylhet Osmani Medical College. There he learns that his son is dead. Then he saw horrible signs of torture on the body of the dead boy. Raihan’s fingernails were also uprooted.Police later claimed that Raihan was beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of kidnapping. However, no evidence of this was found in the footage of the city corporation. His autopsy was completed at Sylhet Osmani Medical College on Sunday. The body of the deceased was found by the family after an autopsy at around 3 pm Police handed him over. His body was buried in the family graveyard after Janazah after Esha prayers. The incident of inhumane torture of Raihan in police custody has been discussed in the media since Sunday. Tahmina Akhter Tani, wife of the deceased, has filed a murder case with Sylhet Kotwali Police Station. After the case was filed, the investigation was handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
