‘Highest quantity of onion will be imported this year’
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said the highest quantity of onion will be imported this year breaking all the previous records of all times to reduce the prices in the market.
The minister said onion prices have also increased in neighbouring India. Floods have disrupted the normal supplies of onion. Despite all these difficulties, the ministry has been monitoring everything. Onion will be sold in open market through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) from September 13.

Tipu Munshi was talking to journalists after holding talks with a three-member delegation led by Hungrarian foreign minister at his office in the secretariat on Thursday.

Onion prices continue to rise for the second consecutive year. Prices of onion have increased by Tk 30 on an average over the last several days. However, the government has not taken any step yet to reduce the prices though decision has been taken to start open market sale of onion from the next wee
