A total of 5 candidates have filed nominations to contest the by-election in Sylhet-3 constituency comprising parts of South Surma, Fenchuganj and Balaganj.
The five submitted their nomination papers at the Sylhet Regional Election Office on Tuesday (June 15). Senior District Election Officer Faisal Quader confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
The five candidates contesting from the seat of late MP Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury Koyes are Awami League candidate Habibur Rahman Habib, district Awami League member, Atiqur Rahman Atiq, presidium member of Jatiya Party candidate party, independent candidate Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury, BNP central executive committee member and former MP. Junaid Muhammad Mia of the Bangladesh Congress Party and independent candidate Fahmida Hossain Ruma. They submitted their nomination papers to Election Officer Faisal Quader at different times of the day till 4 pm on Tuesday. Leaders and supporters were present with them at that time.
