The Election Commission has declared the nomination of 4 candidates in Sylhet-3 constituency valid. The candidatures of the two candidates have been canceled due to inadequate information of the voters in the submitted nominations.It is learned that the nominations of Awami League nominee Habibur Rahman Habib, district Awami League nominee, Jatiya Party nominee Presidium member Atiqur Rahman Atik, independent BNP central member Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury and Junaid Mohammad Miah as independents were declared valid. Besides, the candidatures of Sheikh Jahedur Rahman Masum and Fahmida Hossain Loma were canceled. Sylhet District Returning Officer Israel Hossain confirmed the matter at noon on Thursday (June 18). He said 6 candidates have filed nominations in this election. After the verification and selection of nominations, the nominations of 4 candidates were valid and the nominations of 2 candidates were canceled on Thursday. However, they can appeal to get the candidature back.He said a candidate named Sheikh Jahedur Rahman Masum did not give any information about one percent of the total voters in the nomination paper. The nomination paper submitted by Fahmida Hossain Loma, a woman candidate, was canceled as it provided information about one per cent of the total voters, but it was not found to be correct. According to the schedule, the last day for withdrawal of candidature is June 24. Then the voting will be on July 28.
