Rangpur Riders win inaugural Global Super League title

Sports Desk :: Rangpur Riders won against Cricket Victoria by 56 runs and claimed the inaugural ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) title on a historic night at Providence. Rangpur Riders was the only Bangladeshi team in the league. It was their maiden participation in a foreign T20 event.

After winning the toss, Riders captain Nurul Hasan elected to bat. Steven Taylor and Soumya Sarkar forged a 124-run partnership in just 14 overs. Taylor smashed 68 before falling to Karima Gore, while Sarkar carried his bat with an unbeaten 86 off 54 balls, striking seven fours and five sixes.

The Riders closed their innings at an imposing 178-3 in 20 overs. Victoria, who had been the tournament’s standout team, crumbled under the pressure of the chase. Joe Clarke showed intent with a quick-fire 40 off 22 balls at the top of the order, but they lost quick wickets, and the Australian side was bowled out in the 18th over.

The Riders’ bowling unit operated as a united force, with Harmeet Singh standing out. His slow left-arm spin produced figures of 3-19 from four overs. Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain and Saif Hassan bagged two wickets each.
