News Desk :: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has raised concerns over the transparency of the electoral reform process, stating that the press sheet BNP received from the National Consensus Commission contained only 27 of the approximately 150 recommendations outlined in the Electoral Reform Commission report.
“Most of them are related to constitutional reform. So we think it is difficult to say whether the original action plan, along with the press sheet, is in the interest of democracy,” he said at a press briefing at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan today (22 March).
In response to a question, he mentioned that BNP would likely submit its opinions on the matter by tomorrow (23 March). Earlier this month, the National Consensus Commission sought opinions from 34 political parties on key recommendations from five reform commissions.
The commission has proposed 166 recommendations, including 70 on constitutional reforms, 27 on the electoral system, 23 on the judiciary, 26 on public administration, and 20 on the Anti-Corruption Commission.
