News Desk :: Newly-appointed DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali today assured that autorickshaw-van drivers will not face any incidents of extortion.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a meeting with auto-rickshaw, auto-van and easybike drivers at the DMP Headquarters, he said, “No one will be able to take away the hard-earned money of the poor. We won’t spare any police official if his involvement is found with extortion.”<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the commissioner also asked the rickshaw-van drivers to form committees with OCs of police stations to look into matters of extortion.<\/p>\n
He also said the officer-in-charges of Dhaka’s police stations will be suspended within minutes if they are found to be negligent in accepting cases.<\/p>\n
“The OCs have to accept cases if they are legitimate. Otherwise, they will be suspended in one minute,” the commissioner said. The comments came after a rickshaw-puller at the meeting alleged that he was beaten up in the Kamrangichar area yesterday.<\/p>\n
After asking why he had not filed a case, Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali said, “The OCs have to accept cases if they are legitimate. Otherwise, they will be suspended in one minute.”<\/p>\n
Earlier today, two organisations of rickshaw-van drivers sat in a meeting with the DMP commissioner, where they raised various demands.<\/p>\n
